Benjamin La Borie practices primarily as a commercial litigator with a focus on insolvency and restructuring litigation. He has represented clients before all levels of court in both British Columbia and Ontario, as well as at various administrative and regulatory tribunals.
He has experience in a wide variety of matters, including proceedings under the Companies Creditors’ Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, banking litigation, fraud and Ponzi scheme claims, large class-action claims, shareholder disputes, creditors’ rights and recovery, mortgage disputes, professional liability, construction litigation, estate litigation, and general commercial litigation. He has acted for secured and unsecured creditors, lenders, trustees, monitors and debtors in both litigious matters as well as transactions. He also has experience in complex multi-party negotiation and mediation.
He is a former Director of the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
He joined Hakemi & Ridgedale LLP in 2014 as Associate Counsel after practicing with national firms both in in Toronto and Vancouver. He is an avid guitar player and singer and has played in bands in and around Vancouver.
